01Who this policy covers

This policy explains how BUKCS PTE. LTD. ("we") handles information in the PDF/DOC/XLS/PPT/HWP/TXT Reader mobile app and on pdfmon.com. It applies to the iOS and Android versions of the app.

By installing or using the app you accept the practices described here. If you do not agree, please uninstall the app.

02Our approach

The app is built so that reading needs no server. Scanning your storage, listing files, filtering by type, searching, sorting, bookmarking, opening a document, extracting keywords from it and reading it aloud all run locally on your device.

One feature does use a server: the AI summary, described below. It runs only when you ask for it, and it never sends the document file itself.

We do not require an account, and we do not ask for your name, phone number or address.

03Document content and file information

To show your library, the app reads file names, sizes, formats and modification dates from your device storage, and stores that index locally. The index, your reading history and your bookmarks stay on the device and are not transmitted to us.

Document content is read into memory only while you have the file open. We never receive it.

04Keyword and sentence extraction

The app can extract keywords and key sentences from a document. This runs entirely on your device: no part of the document is transmitted to us or to any third party, and the feature works with no network connection.

To avoid re-analysing the same file, the result is cached on the device and identified by a fingerprint derived from the file itself. The cache never leaves the device and is removed when you clear the app data or uninstall the app.

If you export a result, the file is written to storage on your own device. We do not receive a copy.

05AI summary

If you tap the summarise button, the app sends the key sentences and frequent terms it has already extracted on your device — together with the document title — to a service we operate, which passes them to Google’s Gemini API and returns a short summary. This is the only feature that transmits any part of a document.

The document file itself is never sent. Neither is the full text: a hundred-page contract typically leaves as a few thousand characters of extracted sentences. You can see exactly what will be sent in the "Key sentences" tab before you press the button.

We do not store the sentences, the summary or the document title on our servers. They exist only for the duration of the request. Under the paid API terms we use, the provider does not use this content to train its models; it may retain it briefly for abuse monitoring and then deletes it.

The summary is stored on your device so that opening the same document again does not send anything a second time. It is removed when you clear the app data or uninstall the app.

To apply the free allowance and to check whether you have a subscription, our service receives the anonymous purchase identifier your store assigns. That identifier is not linked to your name, email or phone number, and we hold no other account for you.

If you never press the button, nothing is transmitted.

06Reading documents aloud

The app can read a document aloud using the speech engine built into your device — Text-to-Speech on Android, the system speech synthesiser on iOS. The text is handed to that engine on the device. It is not sent to us and it is not sent to any online speech service, which is why the feature works with no network connection.

The speech engine itself is part of your operating system, or a speech app you have installed. It is not our software and its own terms and privacy practices apply to it.

Playback continues while the app is in the background. On Android this requires a foreground service, which is why a playback notification appears while you are listening; ending playback removes it.

So that you can continue where you stopped, the app records your position — a sentence number together with a fingerprint derived from the file — on the device. It also keeps a count on the device of how many documents you have listened to on the current day, in order to apply the free daily allowance. Neither is transmitted to us, and both are removed when you clear the app data or uninstall the app.

07Converting a file to PDF

Converting an Office or HWP file to PDF is done by the app on your device. The file is not uploaded, and the PDF is written to your own storage next to the original.

We count how many conversions you have used so that the free allowance can be applied. That counter is a number, not a record of which files you converted.

08Sharing with your PC

If you pair the FileShare desktop app by scanning the QR code it displays, documents move between your phone and your PC over a connection that both devices authenticate before any transfer begins. We do not store those files.

So that two devices on different networks can find each other, a connection service we operate relays the technical details needed to open that link — identifiers for devices you have paired, network addresses and connection times. Document content is not part of that exchange.

Most transfers go straight between your two devices. When your network will not allow that, the same service relays the transfer itself. Even then the content is encrypted so that only your two devices can unlock it — we cannot read it, and we do not keep it.

Unpairing a device at either end ends its access.

09Purchases

Premium is billed by Apple or Google. We never see your card number. The store returns a purchase receipt and a subscription status, which we use to unlock Premium and to handle restore-purchase requests.

10Advertising

The free version shows a banner supplied by Google AdMob, and a full-screen ad may appear after you have opened a number of documents. Ad SDKs may process a device advertising identifier, coarse location derived from IP address, and basic device and ad-interaction data in order to select and measure ads.

There is also an optional rewarded ad: on a day when you have used the free listening allowance, you may choose to watch one in order to listen to one more document. It starts only when you tap it, and if you decline, nothing else in the app changes. Rewarded ads are served by the same provider and process the same categories of data as the ads above.

On iOS, personalized advertising is used only if you allow tracking when the system prompt appears. In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, ad personalization follows the choice you make in the consent prompt, and you can reopen that prompt from Settings. Buying Premium removes ads.

11Diagnostics

We collect crash reports and basic usage events (for example: app opened, a document of a given type was opened, a paywall was shown) to find defects and decide what to build next. These events describe actions, not document contents, and never include file names or document text.

On our website (pdfmon.com) we keep first-party visit statistics: the campaign parameters of the link you arrived from (for example utm_source), the referring site, which sections you scrolled to and which download buttons you pressed. These are tied to a random identifier stored in a cookie for 30 days. We do not store your IP address.

12Who we share information with

We do not sell personal information. We share only what each provider needs to run the service:

• Apple and Google — app distribution, in-app purchases and subscription status.
• Google AdMob — advertising in the free version.
• Meta Platforms (Meta Pixel, website only) — measuring the results of advertising campaigns that link to our website.
• Google (Gemini API) — generating the AI summary from the sentences you send.
• RevenueCat — subscription status for the anonymous purchase identifier.
• Cloud hosting and crash reporting providers acting on our instructions.
• Authorities, where we are legally required to respond to a valid request.

13International transfers

Our providers may process data outside your country, including in the United States, the European Union and Singapore. Where required, transfers rely on Standard Contractual Clauses or an equivalent lawful transfer mechanism.

14How long data is kept

• Purchase and subscription records: kept while your subscription is active and afterwards as required for tax and accounting.
• Crash and diagnostic events: up to 24 months.
• Support emails: up to 24 months after the request is closed.
• Sentences sent for an AI summary, and the summary returned: not stored by us. Held by the API provider only briefly for abuse monitoring, then deleted.
• Count of AI summaries you have used: kept against your anonymous purchase identifier so the free allowance cannot be reset by reinstalling.
• Your local library index, reading history, bookmarks, analysis cache, saved summaries, listening positions and daily listening count: until you clear the app data or uninstall the app.
• Files you export from the app: they stay on your device until you delete them.

15Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or export data we hold about you, to object to or restrict processing, and to withdraw consent. Residents of Korea have equivalent rights under PIPA, residents of the EEA and UK under the GDPR, and residents of California under the CCPA/CPRA.

Because the app has no accounts, most of your data is under your own control on the device: uninstalling the app removes the local index, history, bookmarks, analysis cache, saved summaries and listening positions. The count of AI summaries used is kept against your anonymous purchase identifier and is not reset by reinstalling — write to us if you need it looked at. For anything else, write to privacy@pdfmon.com and we will respond within the period required by law.

You may also reset or clear your advertising identifier in your device settings at any time.

16Children

The app is not directed at children under 13 (or under 14 in Korea), and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact privacy@pdfmon.com and we will delete it.

17Security

Transmissions to our services use TLS. Access to production systems is restricted and logged. No system is perfectly secure, so please keep your device locked and up to date.

18Changes to this policy

We will update this page when our practices change and revise the date at the top. For significant changes we will also give notice inside the app before they take effect.
